Location is ideal; cafes, bars and convenience stores on the doorstep and a couple larger mini-markets just a short walk away. I didn't have much interaction with staff, other than to say 'hola' to on the way past, but there's usually someone around to speak to if you have any problems and everyone is friendly. Area is fairly vibrant in the evening, especially at the weekend. Five minutes walk and you're on Gran Via, with its massive department stores, burger kings and starbucks, and of course Metro station(s). The hotel itself is 2 floors up through grand old double doors in a large traditional Spanish block. There's a small lift, which I never bothered using but handy if you're infirm or have heavy bags. Rooms are basic and a little dated, but adequate and tidy. Fresh bedding, towels and a bar of soap provided plus a sink with hot and cold water. Beds are comfy, and theres a wardrobe with hangers and a thick blanket if you're visiting during the colder months, plus a writing desk and chair. There's a small TV mounted on the wall, Spanish stations only so I didn't use it much, but it's nice to have if you speak the language, or like a bit of background noise. One thing I should point out is the shared bathrooms ... they were always spotless. I visited at a quieter time of year (end October, beginning of November) so maybe the cleaning staff had extra time on their hands, but I genuinely felt like every time I went into the toilet/shower that it had been freshly cleaned (even when I'd just been in it myself 30 mins ago!). I really don't think there's much available at this price that would be better. Sure I've stayed in nicer accommodation, but I've paid a lot more for the privilege.

Very spacious room, good bed. Lavabo in the room, which was very useful, as we had a shared bathroom. The shared bathrooms (two bathrooms for four rooms) were in very good condition, very clean and tidy. The condition of the shared bathrooms was a pleasant surprise for us (it was the first time we had shared bathroom). The location of the hostel was good, situated in the neighborhood of Malasana, within easy reach of many bars and resaturants as well as the very center of Madrid (Gran Via, Plaza Del Sol).

Really satisfied with the staying at the hostel. It is situated in a fancy artistic street in the city center, with cozy restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Hostel is up to 15 minutes walk to most of the main landmarks in Madrid. Personal is friendly and at your disposal when you need them. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Great choice!

Really enjoyed our stay over 3 nights. Very mixed area, from great restaurants and artistic shops to some elements that may shock the sensitive. Luckily we're not and had no problems with the diverse nature of the area. Great hotel, classic building and comfortable rooms, and so near the city centre too. Booked to go back already.

The room was clean. It has enough space. The room is not huge, but it is comfortable. The Hostal is in the center. The most important places like Royal Palace, Gran Via, Mayor Plaza, Los Cibeles are walking distance. The airport is only 25 minutes by car.
